  Notre Dame 0  Alabama 0  Stanford 0

It was a cold, cold day that greeted fans at Tom Bowl XXIV. In what was easily the shortest Tom Bowl in the 24 year history of the game the frozen fans waited about three minutes but to no avail for an appearance by Notre Dame, Stanford and Alabama. It was so cold the Tom Bowl trophy didn't even come out of its bag.

Although Notre Dame had already declined an offer to attend, the Tom Bowl had decided they were kidding. It turns out they were not.

Hopes were high at the outset. There were a number of buses present, including one that seemed to be having some kind of battery problem. This sign of human activity though did not prove out to be one of the teams.  Attendance: 14 people, 1 dog, all freezing.

I've been reading this book on influential presidential candidates who lost. It's taken me a long time to get through it. I didn't realize Thomas Dewey was so influential. I wonder if he read the New York Times after that 1948 election. I also finally got around to reading I know this Much is True which was really a great book. Best movie quote of the year: King Candy: [puts on glasses] You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses would you? [Ralph smacks the King with the glasses] King Candy: You hit a guy, with glasses. Well played. The Avengers moved right into my top five movies ever and I loved "Hulk?... Smash." Hulk stole the movie. I was really excited about Star Trek: Into Darkness but now that Star Wars Episode VII is coming, nothing else seems to matter. I hope Old Luke is in it. I figure Harrison Ford can show up at the beginning of Episode VII and leave to go get some blue milk. Comes back at the end of Episode IX and asks if he missed anything. The two replacement frogs are no longer with us. Bubba cup is still going strong. The ice never melts! Went to NYC and saw the Radio City Music Christmas Show. Surprisingly good show. DC brought back a new Earth Two Superman and then killed him. We got some new carpet. The whole Big Ten was lousy this year. The Lions came back to earth after last year's playoff game. Never seen a team manage to lose so many games in so many creative ways. Crazy that Notre Dame is relevant again. By the way, 10 = 14. Just is.
